Ice Ice Baby

The overhyped "Ice Storm 2009" did turn out pretty icy - school was cancelled all day. Our patio was one solid sheet of ice. Sandy refused to go outside for hours!
After it did thaw a bit, Nathan went out (in his FLIP-FLOPS!) to rescue some icesicles from the playfort. They may stay in our freezer for months like last year's snowball.
Later, the girls came over to play and Michaela enjoyed a nice ice treat. Yuck!

Girl Art/Boy Art

We went to the PTA family art night this week where the kids made some really cool projects. It also showed the very different styles of girl art and boy art.

Copper etchings
Girl art: Hearts and swirls and polka dots
Boy art: a little more abstract (the one on the bottom right is my absolute favorite - unfortunately he crumpled it up on the way to the car)
Mosaic tiles:
Girl art: pretty pieces of glass in an organized design. useful as a trivet.
Boy art: pretty pieces of glass - some going 3D. useful as a weapon.
Bottlecap art
Girl art: personalized jewelry
Boy art: plain magnetWatercolor
Girl art: pretty heart
Boy art: apparently boys don't watercolor (at least that's what Nathan told me!)

Austin Roadtrip

We went to Austin for our traditional late Christmas gathering the weekend after new years. During the day we headed to the Austin Children's Museum in downtown with the cousins. The kids really liked the pig parachutes (we decided we might have to build one at home).
